French defender Florian Lejeune believes that a move to Newcastle is “as good as done” and his club Eibar also believe he will become the Magpies’ second summer signing, according to the Chronicle.

However, the report also details that there is a delay in completing the transfer for the 26-year-old centre-back due to how the deal is being structured.

It is believed that the La Liga side want his full release clause paid up front, which is believed to be £8.7million, as reported by the Mirror.

However, the Magpies want to strike a different deal and the Chronicle reporst that Newcastle want to pay the fee in instalments.

But, it is also detailed that the newly promoted Premier League club have been told that they must offer to pay the the fee in full and that talks are currently continuing between the two sides.

It has been an underwhelming summer so far for Rafa Benitez’ side following their Championship title winning campaign with only attacker Christian Atsu joining permanently from Chelsea so far.

Lejeune himself was a consistent performer for the Spanish top-flight club last summer, playing 37 times times in all competitions as they finished in 10th place and Newcastle fans will be hoping that their side can push forward with their dealings soon.
