Leeds are still “firmly” in the race for Huesca ace Samuel Saiz, according to a reliable journalist.

Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent Phil Hay stated the 26-year-old attacker is keen on a move to Elland Road, and that a deal is close to completion.

Hay made the claim in a message on his personal Twitter account on Sunday morning.

Hay’s message comes after Saiz’s representative Juan Moreno told the Yorkshire Evening Post that there was firm interest in his client from Leeds and several La Liga clubs.

It was said Real Betis, Las Palmas and Alaves were all in the running to sign the 26-year-old this summer.

The report claimed Alaves was the most likely destination for the Spaniard, as they finished ninth in La Liga last term and reached the final of the Copa del Rey final for the first time in their history.

Saiz was one of Huesca’s top performers in the 2016-17 season, scoring 12 goals in 40 La Liga 2 appearances, as well as providing eight assists.

He signed for the club in the summer of 2015 from Atletico Madrid B, and he has since played 74 league and cup games, which have yielded 15 goals and 11 assists.

The 26-year-old Spaniard spent the majority of last campaign playing as a second striker, but he is also comfortable on either wing or as an out-and-out striker.
