Leeds United and Huddersfield Town are set to battle it out in the race to sign Granada ace Sverrir Ingason, according to a Sun report.

The newspaper claims the 23-year-old centre-back has a £2million release clause in his Granada contract, which both the Whites and the Tykes are ready to meet.

It is said Huddersfield have been on Ingason’s trail since he played for Belgian outfit Lokeren, while Leeds manager Thomas Christiansen is also keen on him.

The report states the Iceland international is highly rated in his homeland, and has been touted to be a success in the Premier League.

He only joined Granada from Lokeren in January of this year, and he signed a three-and-a-half year deal, but if either of the Yorkshire clubs meet his release clause he is able to leave.

Ingason made 17 La Liga appearances for Granada in the latter half of the season, but despite his best efforts the club were relegated from the Spanish top-flight.

The 23-year-old had been at Lokeren since January 2015 prior to making his move to Spain, and during his two year spell there he played 70 league and cup games.

He has also been capped by Iceland on 11 occasions, and he featured as a substitute in their 1-0 World Cup qualifying win over Croatia earlier this month.
