Ex-striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is not in the running to become the new Leeds United manager, according to West Yorkshire Sport.

The BBC Radio station claimed on their official Twitter account on Monday that reports suggesting the 45-year-old was on the Leeds radar were “wide of the mark”.

It had been reported by the Mirror last week that Leeds were considering an approach that would see the former Whites player fill the current managerial vacancy at the Yorkshire club.

Leeds have been on the hunt for a new manager after Garry Monk tendered his resignation on May 25, following a breakdown in talks with owner Andrea Radrizzani over an extended contract.

Monk had spent just one year in charge at Elland Road before his departure, where he led Leeds to a seventh-placed finish in the Championship.

A host of high-profile names have since been linked with the vacancy, but Hasselbaink emerged as one of only a few potential candidates that have previous ties to the club.

Hasselbaink scored 42 goals from 87 appearances for the club between 1997 and 1999, and was also understood to have declined the opportunity to become Leeds manager before Monk took charge last summer.

The offer had been made to him by former Leeds owner Massimo Cellino, who was ousted from his role at the club when Radrizzani took full control just a week prior to Monk’s departure.

Leeds fans had already voiced their discontent amid the speculation of a return for Hasselbaink, but they can rest easy after hearing the latest update from West Yorkshire Sport.
