Halliday passes Gabala medical – journalist

Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday is all set to finalise his move to FC Gabala, according to a reliable journalist.

Scottish Sun chief football writer Robert Grieve claimed on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon that the 25-year-old had passed a medical and agreed terms with the Azerbaijan outfit.

Halliday appeared destined to leave Rangers this summer after he was frozen out of the first-team setup by manager Pedro Caixinha, despite his regular first-team role last season.

The midfielder had made 42 appearances in all competitions during the 2016-17 campaign, but has since fallen foul to an overhaul of the first-team squad by the Rangers boss.

He will move to the Azerbaijan club on a season-long loan deal, and a move looks likely to be completed well-ahead of Gabala’s Europa League opener in mid-July.

Gabala are set to face-off against either Dinamo Batumi or Jagiellonia Bialystok in the Europa League second qualifying-round on July 13, and Halliday could arrive in time to play a key role.

He was omitted from the Rangers squad to face Progres Niederkorn at Ibrox on Thursday, and has reportedly been banished to train with the Under-20’s side until he completes his move.

The Scottish Sun reported on Sunday that Halliday had been told by Caixinha that he was surplus to requirements at the club, and was informed he would be shipped out on loan, whilst being exiled from the senior setup.
