Chelsea have offered £70m for Lukaku

Premier League rivals Chelsea have launched a club-record £70million bid to Everton for star Romelu Lukaku, according to the Express.

The news outlet has detailed on their transfer blog (Wednesday, 06.15am) that the Blues have made a mega offer to bring the Toffees’ 24-year-old back to Stamford Bridge.

The reported fee would beat Chelsea’s current record signing of Fernando Torres by £20million after he made the switch from Liverpool for £50million back in 2011.

However, they may have to up their bid even higher if they are to bring in the Belgian this summer with the Express also detailing that Everton are holding out for £80million.

The Toffees themselves splashed a club-record £28million to acquire Lukaku from Chelsea in 2014, which was only topped with the signing of Jordan Pickford from Sunderland for £30million this summer.

Lukaku has proven that he is well worth the fee too and during his time on Merseyside, which includes an initial loan spell he has bagged 87 goals in 166 appearances.

Last season alone he scored a phenomenal 25 Premier League goals in 37 appearances and Ronald Koeman will be keen to keep the striker who is still contracted to the club until 2019.

But, £80million would also break Everton’s record fee received, which is currently held by John Stones following his £47.5million move to Manchester City last summer.
