Celtic have tabled an improved bid of £1.3million for Aberdeen ace Jonny Hayes, according to a Daily Express report.

The newspaper claims the Hoops are hoping to seal a deal for the 29-year-old right-sided midfielder within the next 48 hours.

Hayes has been on international duty but the report says that he’s ready to fly back to complete the move.

The deal will also see Ryan Christie return to Aberdeen next term on a season-long loan.

This comes after a Press and Journal report stated that the Dons had told Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers to raise his offer for the Irish midfielder.

It was said that Cardiff led the way in the race for Hayes’ signature with a £1.2million bid, but Birmingham City and Nottingham Forest were interested as well.

Meanwhile, widespread reports, including one in the Daily Record, claimed that Celtic had also made a £1.2million move for the 29-year-old.

The right-sided midfielder was one of Aberdeen’s top performers last term, providing a sensational 24 assists in 44 appearances in all competitions, as well as netting 11 goals.

Hayes arrived at Pittodrie in the summer of 2012 from Inverness and he has since played 207 league and cup games, which have yielded 30 goals and 71 assists.

He has been capped by the Republic of Ireland on four occasions, and he was an unused substitute in the side’s 1-1 World Cup qualifying draw with Austria last week.
