Celtic are in advanced talks with Manchester City to sign Patrick Roberts on a permanent deal, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claim the Scottish treble winners are keen to seal the signing of the wide forward after his impressive 18-month loan spell at Parkhead.

The Mirror report that City are prepared to pay £5million for England Under-20 international Roberts, who joined the Premier League club for £12million from Fulham in the summer of 2015.

It is said that Celtic will seal the signing of the winger if they are able to get close to the fee paid by City two years ago.

Manager Brendan Rodgers is keen to push through an agreement for Roberts on the back of his exploits in Celtic’s record-breaking unbeaten season.

Roberts scored 11 goals and supplied 19 assists in 47 matches in all competitions in the recently completed campaign and emerged as one of the team’s most penetrative players after Christmas.

Since joining Celtic in January 2016, the Englishman has scored 17 goals and supplied 21 assists from 60 appearances.

City are keen to offload as many as 12 players this summer as manager Pep Guardiola aims to continue a huge overhaul that has already led to Pablo Zabaleta, Gael Clichy, Jesus Navas and Willy Cabalero leaving the club.
