Championship side Aston Villa are set to go head-to-head with up to seven sides in the hunt for Crystal Palace midfielder Joe Ledley, according to the Sun.

The newspaper report on their website that the 30-year-old, who is available as a free agent this summer, has been attracting interest from Premier League side West Brom, Championship duo Villa and Derby, and four clubs from Turkey and Germany.

It is also claimed that a number of Chinese Super League teams are considering making a move for the 70-time-capped Welsh international, in a bid to avoid a new 100 per cent tax on transfer fees, with Ledley being a free transfer.

Villa boss Steve Bruce is in the market for a proven central midfield performer this summer, and was reported by The Times journalist John Percy, on his personal Twitter account, to have had a £500,000 bid for Stoke midfielder Glenn Whelan rejected.

The Mirror claim that Stoke are looking for £1million for the 33-year-old, and the Sun report that Bruce has set his sights on Ledley due to frustration that the Potters are unwilling to drop their asking price.

Despite being allowed to depart Selhurst Park on a free this summer, Ledley still played a part in their fight for Premier League survival last season, making 18 league appearances for the Eagles and scoring his only goal in a 3-2 win away at Sunderland.
