Aston Villa are weighing up a summer move for Burnley ace George Boyd who now looks ready to leave his club, according to a Birmingham Mail report.

The newspaper claims the 31-year-old midfielder has rejected a one-year contract extension at Turf Moor and will leave the club when his current deal expires this summer.

It is said Boyd is looking for a three-year contract at a new club, but it is uncertain whether Villa would be ready to offer him such a lengthy deal.

The report states the Birmingham giants’ manager Steve Bruce tried to sign the 31-year-old in January, but failed in his attempts to prise him away from Turf Moor.

However, a second approach is expected from Villa this summer, after Derby County’s interest in the player appears to have cooled.

Boyd was a mainstay of Burnley’s midfield last term, making 36 Premier League appearances, and helping the club to retain their top-flight status.

He joined the club in the summer of 2014 from Hull City in a £3.2million move, and he has since played 123 league and cup games for the side, scoring 12 goals and adding 10 assists.

The 31-year-old is able to play on either flank and has been capped by Scotland on two occasions.
