Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is set to miss the club’s pre-season tour of Australia and China as he recovers from a broken leg sustained while on loan at Bournemouth, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper report on their website that the 25-year-old is still rehabilitating from the hairline fracture he suffered in the Cherries’ defeat to Arsenal’s rivals Tottenham in April, which ruled him out of the end of season fixtures.

The Gunners are set to travel halfway around the world to take part in games in both Australia and China as part of their pre-season preparations, with their first match against Sydney FC on July 13.

They are also set to clash against German giants Bayern Munich and fellow Premier League side Chelsea in China, before returning to London to take part in the annual Emirates Cup, which pits them against Portuguese champions Benfica and Spanish side Sevilla.

The Daily Mail say that Wilshere is targeting a return to training once the Gunners return to the capital, with the midfielder needing to prove his worth at the club.

The loss of the midfielder is a shattering blow for Arsenal and the player, who would be expected to challenge strongly for a first-team slot if fully fit.

He has just a year left on his contract at the Emirates, and has been linked with a move away with West Ham and AC Milan named as joint favourites for his signature by SkyBet earlier this month.

However, Martin Keown believes that Arsene Wenger will “certainly” offer the 34-time-capped England international a new contract.
