Rangers have completed the signing of Vitoria Setubal defender Fabio Cardoso, it has been confirmed.

The Scottish giants announced on their official Twitter account on Wednesday morning that the Portuguese defender had completed his move to Ibrox on a three-year deal.

The 23-year-old centre-back becomes the latest new arrival at Ibrox, as manager Pedro Caixinha continues his overhaul of the first-team squad.

Cardoso becomes the fourth signing made by the Portuguese in the space of just eight days, having also secured the signatures of Bruno Alves, Ryan Jack and Dalcio.

But there is plenty more still to come from Rangers and Caixinha, with duo Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera awaiting work permit clearances before being given the green light to complete their moves.

Both Alves and Cardoso are central defenders, and their arrival follows Caixinha’s decision to let experienced duo Clint Hill and Philippe Senderos leave the club this summer.

Cardoso began his professional career with Benfica, although he failed to break beyond the reserve team setup before joining Vitoria Setubal in 2016.

He made 55 appearances for the Benfica B team between 2012 and 2016, scoring three goals.

The defender has also featured regularly within the youth ranks of the Portugal national team setup, making appearances at Under 15 through to Under 20’s level.
