BBC pundit Pat Nevin has advised Rangers attacker Barrie McKay that if he can’t find first team football at Ibrox then he should look for it elsewhere.

The 22-year-old was reportedly ordered to train with the Rangers Under-20s on Tuesday with March appointment Pedro Caixinha looking to overhaul the squad which finished in third place last season.

The right-winger was once thought of as one of Scotland’s brightest emerging talents and even made his senior international debut back in June 2016.

However, with this latest decision made by Caixinha, Nevin has told that McKay should start looking elsewhere, as he himself made a decision to stay at a club where he was not playing during his football career.

“The advice is simple — if you’re not getting first team football somewhere, get it,” told Nevin, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“I made the mistake once. I was at Everton, a new manager came in and I wasted a year.

“I thought I’d try to show him how good a player I was.

“But it didn’t matter how good I was — that was nothing to do with it!

“It didn’t matter how good I was, he didn’t rate me.”

Last season McKay was a frequent part of the Rangers team, playing 46 times in all competitions and bringing a return of six goals and 11 assists.

However, he has just one-year remaining on his contract at Ibrox and after this latest development it is unclear where his future lies.

Caixinha has already allowed Joe Garner, Philippe Senderos and Clint Hill to leave since taking over with Andy Halliday also reportedly close to be on his way out and McKay’s name could also be added to the list this summer.
