Aberdeen forward Jonny Hayes has admitted that the wheels are in motion for him to make a sensational transfer to Celtic.

Hayes has confirmed he is aware of the Scottish treble winners’ interest and that progress has been made for him to swap the Dons for the Hoops during the summer transfer window.

This comes after widespread reports, including in the Daily Record, that Celtic  have tabled a £1.2million move for the 29-year-old.

Right-winger Hayes was a star in the Aberdeen side in the recently completed domestic campaign and he has attracted several potential suitors, including Championship outfit Cardiff.

But the assist king has said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun, that a big-money move to Parkhead is on the cards.

Asked about Celtic, he said: “We’ve obviously known about it for a while now. There have been a few things developing with the club.

“It means you are doing something right if somebody else is taking a look. You can take it as a compliment.

“As far as I’m aware I am still an Aberdeen player. I enjoy it there and it’s an old cliche but we’ll wait and see what happens.

“I just wanted to finish the season with Aberdeen and I signed a new deal there in January.

“I was really just concentrating on that. Whatever happens over the summer will happen.”

The Daily Record report states Celtic are in “pole position” to sign the Irishman, who is keen on a reunion with Brendan Rodgers after previously working with him as a youngster at Reading.

Hayes was part of an Aberdeen side who finished second in the Scottish Premiership and reached two domestic cup finals.

The 29-year-old was one of the club’s star performers, supplying a sensational 24 assists in 44 league and cup games as well as weighing in with 11 goals.

The Irishman has been at Pittodrie since the summer of 2012, making 207 appearances in all competitions, which have yielded 30 goals and 71 assists.

He has also been capped by the Republic of Ireland four times and started their 3-1 friendly win over Uruguay last Sunday.
