Former striker John Hartson has told his Twitter followers that he would “love” to see Celtic sign Manchester City attacker Patrick Roberts in a permanent deal.

The 20-year-old right-wing man joined the Hoops in an 18-month loan deal in January 2016 and excelled in Scotland.

He played a frequent role in the side as Ronny Delia’s team lifted the Premiership title in 2016 and then he helped Brendan Rodgers complete a domestic treble the following season.

Now, with Roberts heading back to Pep Guardiola’s team he may find first team football more difficult to come by and Hartson responded to a fan via his personal Twitter account on Monday evening stating he would love to see Celtic sign Roberts.

Roberts played in 60 matches in total for Celtic, returning 17 goals and 21 assists.

This season alone he bagged himself 11 goals and 19 assists in 47 outings in all competitions.

The attacker joined Manchester City in the summer of 2015 in a £12million deal from Fulham and has even gone on to play three times for the cash-rich Premier League side.

However, Guardiola is also looking to spend big money this summer to ensure City can challenge for the Premier League title once more and that could see Roberts fall down the pecking order.
