Arsenal legend Robert Pires has told Sky Sports that Arsenal fans need to unite next season in order to succeed.

Following Arsenal’s FA Cup victory last week, boss Arsene Wenger announced that he would be extending his reign for a further two years.

Pires has now called for fans to unite together and support the manager following the Gunners’ worst finish under Wenger’s reign, as they ended up in fifth position,  outside of the Champions League spots.

Talking to Sky the ex-Arsenal midfielder said: “Some fans are split but the message is to be passionate for next season because the first objective will be to win the Premier League.”

Pires won two Premier League titles under the leadership of Wenger, and was part of the infamous ‘Invincibles’ squad, and has revealed that he is happy that Wenger has stayed.

“I love Arsenal and I love Arsene Wenger so I think it’s great news for him.”

Pires’ comments follow Arsene Wenger’s claims last season about the hostile atmosphere surrounding the Emirates during games.

Following the amount of fans against Wenger and the regular sight of ‘Wenger Out’ banners, Wenger will need a successful summer to unite all the fans behind him.

Pires isn’t the only Arsenal player to come out in support of Wenger recently – both Thierry Henry and Ian Wright are hoping for a Wenger title bid next season.
