West Ham considering move for Toulouse goalscorer Braithwaite

|

West Ham United have entered the race to sign Toulouse attacker Martin Braithwaite this summer, according to the Sun.

The newspaper report that Slaven Bilic is lining up a seven-figure bid worth £7.5million to sign the Ligue 1 goalscorer, as he seeks attacking reinforcements after a disappointing Premier League campaign last term.

The Hammers recovered from a late slump to seal an 11th-placed finish, but the continued absence of a prolific goalscoring outlet at the London Stadium remains a great concern for Bilic.

Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho have been plagued by injuries and cannot be relied on to score goals week-in, week-out for the club, while summer signing Jonathan Calleri leaves the club at the end of his loan spell.

There have also been few goals from the wider areas, with club record signing Andre Ayew adding just six goals.

But he believes a low-budget move for the Toulouse attacker, who is adept at playing as either a winger or as a centre-forward, could be a viable solution to the club’s ongoing woes.

Braithwaite scored 12 goals from 36 appearances in all competitions for the French club during the 2016-17 season as they finished in a lowly 13th-place in Ligue 1.

However, West Ham will face competition from European giants Marseille for his signature this summer, while German outfit Cologne are also understood to be monitoring the situation.

But the Premier League side could hold a healthy advantage over their transfer rivals, as Braithwaite would prefer a move to England.

The 15-time Denmark international is under contract at Toulouse until the summer of 2019, having joined in 2013 from Esbjerg for a fee of just under £2million.
