Rangers goalkeeper Wes Foderingham has hilariously revealed that a supporter mistakingly thought he was Manchester City defender Gael Clichy.

The 26-year-old was on a plane back to Glasgow when a fan asked him if he was the three-time Premier League winner to which Foderingham responded by saying, “Yeah, I’m on my way to sign for Rangers”.

Foderingham told the story to his Twitter followers on Friday evening, which understandably gained a lot of attention from a variety of supporters.

“On a plane back to Glasgow and a guy asks me if I’m Gael Clichy,” Foderingham wrote on his personal Twitter account with a series of laughing emojis. “I told him yeah, I’m on my way to sign for Rangers, he was buzzing.”

Left-back Clichy is currently contracted to Manchester City until the end of June, but the Frenchman will leave his club in the summer after failing to land a new deal.

During his career, Clichy has played for Arsenal and City as he has ended his stay in Manchester after helping Pep Guardiola’s side to a top-four finish this term.

At the age of 31, there could be the possibility that Clichy could make a switch to Glasgow, but in truth, he will be more than likely looking to continue his career in England’s top flight.

During his time in the Premier League, Clichy has played 325 matches, winning three titles, one FA Cup trophy and two League Cups.

He has also represented France on 18 occasions, making his debut in 2008, but he has not played for his home country since 2013 when his team thrashed Australia during an international friendly.
