Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward wants a summer transfer back to newly-promoted Premier League club Huddersfield, according to the Echo,

The Merseyside newspaper claim that the Anfield back-up keeper, 23, is keen to return to the Terriers after a hugely successful season-long loan at the Kirklees Stadium that ended in promotion.

The Echo report that Wales international Ward accepts that Liverpool hold his registration and it is ultimately not his decision but his preference is another campaign at Huddersfield.

It is said that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is expected to take a look at the shot-stopper during the pre-season before making a final decision.

The German is able to call upon Simon Mignolet and his number two Loris Karius as his senior keepers and Ward would face an uphill battle to leapfrog the pair before the transfer window shuts,

Ward enjoyed an outstanding loan spell at Huddersfield last season and played a major role in their promotion to the Premier League.

He was the hero in two penalty shootout, including making the decisive save as the Yorkshire club achieved promotion via the play-off final against Reading.

He made 46 appearances across all competitions for Huddersfield and kept an impressive 12 clean sheets in return.
