Kyle Walker is in line to join Manchester City within the next fortnight, according to Sky Sports News.

The broadcaster have claimed on their website that the Tottenham defender, 27, is closing in on what will be a mega-money transfer to the Etihad Stadium.

Sky Sports do not report the expected fee that City would pay for right-back Walker but the Star state that he will cost around £40million.

Walker, who has won 25 caps, is currently with the England squad preparing for Saturday’s World Cup qualifier against Scotland in Glasgow.

He is a first choice for club and country although he was demoted in favour of Kieran Trippier at Tottenham for a number of marquee matches at the end of the domestic season as speculation swirled around his future.

Walker has reportedly stopped short of handing in a transfer request but has made his intentions clear that he does not want to be at Spurs next season.

The defender signed a new five-year contract last September, which reports have variously calculated to be worth between £55,000-a-week and £70,000-a-week, and which ties him to Tottenham until 2021.

This means that City, or any other suitor, will have to pay a vast price to secure the signing of a player regarded as one of the best players in his position in Europe.

Walker is one of the longest-serving members of the Tottenham team after joining from United in the summer of 2009 for £5million.

Following successful loan spells at Aston Villa, QPR and back at United, Walker has established himself as Spurs and England’s first choice right-back.

He made 37 appearances for Tottenham in 2016-17 and was named in the PFA Premier League team of the season voted by his fellow professionals.
