Ajax defender Joel Veltman has admitted he is unaware of any interest from Tottenham but revealed that Vincent Janssen has joked about the two of them becoming teammates.

The London Evening Standard reported on Friday that the 25-year-old was high on Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino’s list of potential transfer targets this summer.

The right-back, who has spent the entirety of his career at the Dutch club as a graduate of their famed academy, is entering the final year of his contract, with the Evening Standard reporting that a cut-price of £8 million has been placed on the defender’s head.

Dutch football news outlet Voetbal International report that Veltman has been offered a two year extension to his contract, but in an interview with VI he admits it may be time to move elsewhere, although states that his agent is yet to hear from Spurs.

“They (Ajax) want me to stay, but it is perhaps a good time to look elsewhere,” the 17-time-capped Dutch international told VI.

“I have spoken with my agent, but he is unaware of any interest from Tottenham.”

However this has not stopped Veltman’s international teammate and current Tottenham striker Vincent Janssen from joking that the two of them will be playing together next season in North London.

Veltman told VI: “Vincent Janssen joked already that we will be teammates, but currently there is nothing concrete.”

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino may well be looking to prioritise the recruitment of defensive reinforcements this summer, with a number of his back line linked with moves away from the club, including Kyle Walker.

Fellow right-back Veltman, who can also operate in the centre of defence, came so close to tasting success with the Dutch giants last season, making 44 appearances across all competitions as his side finished as runners up in both the Eredivisie and the Europa League.
