Tottenham have submitted a bid for Borussia Dortmund’s 23-year-old defender Matthias Ginter, according to Bild.

The German newspaper claim on their website that Spurs and Hoffenheim have both made offers for the 10-time-capped German international.

It comes after the Independent reported earlier this month that the two clubs were set to go head to head for the versatile centre back, and that the North London side were willing to pay up to £15million for his services.

Able to play in the heart or on the right side of defence, as well as in a defensive midfield role, the 23-year-old played an important role during Dortmund’s last campaign.

Ginter made 42 appearances across all competitions as he helped his side reach a third place finish in the league as well as secure the German cup under now-departed boss Thomas Tuchel.

Since joining Dortmund from fellow German side Freiburg in 2014, the defender has gone on to make 102 appearances, scoring four goals and contributing 12 assists.

The news of the bid comes with the future of a number of Tottenham defenders’ futures in doubt.

The Telegraph report that Spurs are still working on a new contract which would remove a £25million release clause from Toby Alderweireld’s current deal, while they also say that Manchester United are circling for utility man Eric Dier, despite being quoted £50million for the England man.
