Europa League winners Manchester United have entered the race to acquire the services of Fulham full-back Ryan Sessegnon, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claims that manager Jose Mourinho is interested in bringing the 17-year-old to Old Trafford as he looks to add depth to the squad for the upcoming season, where they will be competing in the Champions League for the first time since 2015.

The report claims that the Manchester giants are prepared to take on the North London club in order to land the full-back in the summer transfer window.

It’s also reported that Sessegnon could be allowed to leave the Championship club in the summer for a compensation fee of £15million.

This story follows up from a report in the Liverpool Echo which claimed that Sessegnon was on the brink of signing for Tottenham as discussions with Liverpool failed to materialise.

Manchester United struggled in the left full-back position, especially in the closing stages of the season, with England international Luke Shaw and Ashley Young picking up long-term injuries.

Italian defender Matteo Darmian impressed in the role during the Europa League final victory over Ajax but he is not a natural in this position.

Ironically, this could be good news for Shaw though, after public criticism from Mourinho last season, with Sessegnon unlikely to slot straight into the first team.

Sessegnon has enjoyed a spectacular debut season with the Fulham first-team, making a total of 30 appearances in all competitions and scoring seven goals in the process.

His performances played a crucial role in helping Fulham finish in the play-off places for the first time since being relegated from the Premier League in 2014.
