Tottenham ace Harry Kane has claimed his goal in England’s 2-2 World Cup qualifying draw with Scotland at Hampden was the most special moment of his career so far.

The 23-year-old striker bagged an injury time equaliser to break Scottish hearts on Saturday, after a brace of free kicks from Leigh Griffiths had previously seemed to have handed the hosts all three points.

Kane was also handed the England captaincy for the first time in the match, and he spoke emotionally about scoring for his country as skipper.

He told the London Evening Standard: “To be given that opportunity [to be England captain] by the gaffer and how the game panned out, to manage to score in the last minute was a very proud moment.

“It was probably the most special moment, personally, of my career so far. I did not want to lose my first game as captain, that is for sure – especially against Scotland.

“So to score that goal … it has been a while since I scored a goal for England. It was a special feeling for me.”

The 23-year-old star has been capped by England on 18 occasions, and he has scored six goals.

He will look to add to his international tally on Tuesday night when he captains his nation for the second time, in a friendly against France at the Stade de France.

Kane was one of Spurs’ top performers last term, scoring 29 goals in 30 Premier League outings, as well as providing seven assists.

The front man broke into the senior squad at White Hart Lane in the summer of 2014, and he has since made 165 appearances in all competitions, which have yielded 99 goals and 17 assists.
