Gareth Bale has belatedly revealed his sadness on Twitter after Tottenham played their final game at White Hart Lane in May.

Spurs beat Manchester United 2-1 at the start of last month before the diggers moved in to demolish the historic stadium while the club relocate to Wembley for the 2017-18 season as their new home is built

Posting on his personal Twitter account, former Spurs attacker Bale declared that White Hart Lane would “always be a special place” to him.

It is odd timing from Bale, given that the Premier League season ended nearly three weeks ago and the last match at White Hart Lane was on 14 May.

In the immediate aftermath, Spurs began to demolish their old stadium as work began on building their new state-of-the-art, 61,000 seat stadium for the start of the 2018-19 season.

Bale moved to White Hart Lane at just 17 years of age from Southampton in 2007, and went on to play for the north London giants for six years.

The versatile attacker scored 56 goals in 203 Tottenham league and cup appearances during that time, adding another 58 strikes in assists during his time with Spurs.

Bale, 27, the left Spurs in the summer of 2013 for a world-record fee of £85million at the time to join Real, linking up with former Spurs ace Luka Modric at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Since his move to the Galacticos, 66-time Wales international Bale has won three Champions League titles as well as holding aloft this season’s La Liga title.
