Ben Davies: Pre-season results key to Premier League campaign

|

Tottenham defender Ben Davies believes performing well in pre-season will put the team in good stead to get off to a flying start in the Premier League.

The North London club are set to travel to the States next month for their pre-season tour where they will face Italian side Roma, Ligue 1 giants Paris-Saint Germain and fellow Premier League side Manchester United.

Spurs start the new Premier League season with a trip to newly-promoted Newcastle United before welcoming champions Chelsea in their first league match to be played at Wembley Stadium.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Davies is adamant that picking up victories during the pre-season tour is essential for the team to start the league campaign with confidence.

“We’ve got some good fixtures out there (in America) and it’s up to us to keep ourselves fit and get fully ready for them,” he said.

“We don’t want to come back in and have a slow start to the season – we want to come in raring to go and pick up as many points as we can early-doors. A good pre-season will help us to do that.”

“We’re really determined to win games and I think the way we go into every single match, we don’t have any fear, whoever we’re against.”

The Welshman has been plying his trade at the North London club for three years but he enjoyed his best spell in the side in terms of numbers last season.

The 24-year-old featured in 34 matches in all appearances and he scored his first ever goal for the club in the FA Cup third round tie against Aston Villa.

The defender also found himself on the scoresheet on the final day of the league season when Spurs beat already relegated Hull City 7-1 at the KCOM Stadium.

Davies is only ten matches away from making his 100th appearance with the club.
