Former Arsenal captain Tony Adams believes that Arsene Wenger is a better coach than Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez in terms of physical preparation for a football match.

Speaking on the BBC Breakfast show on Thursday morning (6am), the 50-year-old made the comparison between the two managers stating that the Arsenal boss is far better when it comes to preparing the team pre-match.

When asked about Wenger, Adams stated: “I think he’s a fantastic physiologist.”

“[In terms of] Physiology, preparation and recovery, he’s the best in the game.”

“Benitez is pretty good but Arsene is the best.”

The two managers will go head-to-head in the Premier League next season as Newcastle prepare their return to the English top flight.

The Spanish manager has not yet faced Arsene Wenger whilst in charge at St James’ Park as he became the Newcastle boss in March and Arsenal had already faced the Magpies both home and away in the league.

Wenger holds the advantage in the head-to-head record against Rafa Benitez during his time at Liverpool and Chelsea, picking up five victories in 13 Premier League matches with the Spaniard winning four.

The last time the two faced each other in the Premier League was in Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over Arsenal during the 2012-13 season at Stamford Bridge.
