Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling claims Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham could be an “absolute hero” if he moves to Newcastle this summer.
Abraham, 19, enjoyed a fine loan spell at Championship outfit Bristol City last term and has been strongly linked with a loan move to St James’ Park next season.
Newcastle secured a return to the English top-flight last season by winning the Championship and Stelling believes Abraham could be a fine addition to manager Rafa Benitez’s squad.
When asked if he feels the young forward could perform in the Premier League, he told the Bristol Post: “I really do, yeah.
“When he came to Bristol City, friends of mine at Chelsea came to me and said of all our loanees, he’s the one who could make the grade at Stamford Bridge.
“They felt he has the potential to be a Premier League player, and I certainly do as well. The attraction is if you do go to Newcastle and you are a striker, and you do score goals, you are an absolute hero up there.”
The 19-year-old bagged 23 goals in 43 league appearances for City this term, as well as providing four assists.
Despite spending his whole youth career at Stamford Bridge, he is set to feature for the senior team, and his loan spell in Bristol was his first extended experience of men’s football.
Over the years he has been prolific for the Blues’ various youth teams, scoring 13 goals in 29 Premier League 2 games for the Under-23s, and 12 goals in 16 UEFA Youth League appearances for the Under-19s.
He has also been capped by England Under-21s on six occasions, scoring two goals, making his debut in a 1-0 European Under-21 Championship qualifying win over Kazakhstan.
