England manager Gareth Southgate claims Tottenham ace Harry Kane reminds him of Alan Shearer – because he gets the “hump” every time he fails to score.

Kane finished the 201-/17 campaign with a sensational 29 goals from 30 Premier League appearances as he led Spurs to a second-place finish.

The impressive tally handed the 23-year-old his second consecutive Premier League golden boot, and in just three full seasons of top-flight football under his belt he has already bagged 78 goals in 116 games.

Kane’s goal scoring exploits have led many to suggest that he could overtake Shearer as the league’s all-time top scorer, and Southgate claims the pair are very similar.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun, the Three Lions boss said: “I see that resemblance with Alan that if you have won the game and they haven’t scored they both had the hump.

“I know Harry has the joke about being a one-season wonder – but he has proved it, he has put numbers on the table. It’s great for us.

“But I think Harry also gets the bigger picture of what is important for the team, as Alan did as well.

“I would say both are very single minded and their hunger for scoring and their hunger to be top of those scoring charts was a huge driving factor for them, definitely.

“But equally for them both, life wouldn’t be complete if they weren’t winning things with the team as well.”

Shearer’s record of 260 Premier League goals currently stands far and above his competitors, as his nearest rival, Wayne Rooney, sits on 198 strikes.

Kane is still just 23, and if he carries on his current rate of scoring he will overtake Shearer’s record.

The striker has been capped by England on 17 occasions, scoring five goals, but he has not featured since the 1-0 World Cup qualifying win over Slovenia in September of last year.

The 23-year-old is under contract at Tottenham until 2022, and manager Mauricio Pochettino will hope his form continues in the 2017/18 campaign as the club look to mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title.
