Leon Osman has expressed his excitement at Everton’s transfer activity and admitted that “it has been a long time coming”.

Ronald Koeman’s side have made three signings so far, with the two high-profile names being Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and Ajax captain Davy Klaassen.

England under-21 shot-stopper Pickford joined for a club-record fee, while Dutch midfielder Klaassen moved for a fee of £23.6million.

In previous seasons, Everton have not spent big on transfers despite being a big name in the English Premier League.

However, when Iranian businessman Farhad Moshri brought a stake in the club in 2016, it was quite clear that the Toffees were looking to be more ambitious in the transfer market.

BBC pundit Osman offered his thoughts on his former side’s transfer activity and he was clearly pleased to see them make inroads in the market.

“I’m very excited about it,” Osman told the Monday Night Club on BBC Radio Five Live. “It has been a long time coming, waiting for us as a club to have the ammunition to buy the players the manager wants and not wait until the last minute.

“We are doing out business early, the manager has identified his targets and it is really great to see.”

During the recently concluded season, Koeman helped Everton secure a top-seven finish which means they will enter the qualifying stages of the Europa League next month.

If they reach the group stages then the Merseyside club will be playing two games in a week for a good chunk of the season which requires the club to have a big squad.

Added to that, they will be competing in the FA Cup and League Cup, so the forthcoming campaign will be a big test for Koeman’s side.
