Torino midfielder Afiyie Acquah appears to have poured cold water over an imminent move to Newcastle after posting on social media.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to the North East side and was reported by footballmadeinghana.com on Monday as saying that a “dream” move to England was “90 per cent complete”.

However, the defensive midfielder has come out and refuted claims that a move to the Magpies is on the verge of being completed, instead asserting that he is “100% committed” to his current club.

He took the time out to post on his official Twitter account:

His Tweet reads: “Reports that I claimed a ‘90% done deal’ to @NUFC completely FALSE. 100% committed to @TorinoFC_1906. See video”

Acquah attached an interview he appeared in with Youtube channel Ghanaweb TV, although this appears to contradict his commitment to Torino, with the player confirming that there is a 90 per cent chance that he will be making a move from Italy to England.

He also states that it his dream to play in England, and believes that his style of play will suit the demands of English football.

Acquah has been compared to the likes of Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien by Italian magazine Corriere Del Mezzogiorno, receiving praise for his work ethic and tenaciousness in the middle of the park.

The defensive midfielder made 22 appearances across all competitions for Torino last season, scoring two goals and picking up three red cards, all for second bookable offences

He would join fellow Ghana star Christian Atsu at St James’ Park were he to join the Magpies, with the winger having completed a £6.5million move from Chelsea after impressing during a loan spell.
