Newcastle have shown interest in making a move for Levante’s 23-year-old central midfielder Victor Camarasa, according to a reliable journalist.

Gary Jacob, who is a a sports journalist for the Times, made the claim that both the Magpies and fellow promoted side Brighton are interested in the former Spain U21 midfielder on his personal Twitter account:

Camarasa, who can operate as a central or attacking midfielder, was sent out on loan last season by Levante after they suffered relegation from La Liga.

He turned out for top flight Spanish side Alaves, impressing in his 31 appearances as he scored three times to help his loan side to a respectable ninth placed finish, ahead of more notable sides such as Valencia and Malaga.

He also managed to play a key role in Alaves’ path to the final of the Copa Del Rey, the Spanish equivalent of the FA Cup, making six appearances as they finished runners up to Catalan giants Barcelona.

Prior to his loan spell, he had made 71 appearances for Levante, scoring four goals and contributing five assists, while he also earned a call up to the Spanish U21 squad, with his last appearance coming in March 2017.

If he were to join the Magpies, he would face a fight for a place in the starting XI with fellow forward thinking midfielders Jonjo Shelvey and Mohamed Diame, while Siem de Jong could also make a return following his loan spell at PSV.
