Newcastle United are second favourites to sign Brentford attacking midfielder Jota, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.
Sky Bet have priced the Magpies at 6/1 to secure the signature of the 26-year-old before the summer transfer window shuts.
This comes after West London Sport reported that Newcastle were one of three Premier League clubs interested in signing the Spaniard this summer.
Rafa Benitez’s side are currently ahead of host of top-flight English teams who are also keen on signing Jota, with West Ham United placed at 7/1, Everton at 8/1 and Swansea City at 10/1.
Fellow Premier League side Burnley currently lead the way at 5/2 to sign the attacking playmaker this summer.
Jota signed for the Championship club from La Liga side Celta Vigo at the start of the 2014-15 campaign and he enjoyed a fantastic debut season, scoring 11 goals and providing three assists in 42 appearances.
The Spaniard’s contribution helped the London based club reach the playoffs where they were eventually defeated by Middlesborough.
The midfielder was unable to replicate his performances the following season as he picked up a horrible ankle injury which ruled him out for most of the campaign.
Last season, Jota was sent out on loan to La Liga side Eibar but he returned back to England at the beginning of the new year and he went on to score 12 league goals and provide five assists in 21 appearances.
