Newcastle have been installed as second favourites to sign Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

Pep Guardiola’s City revealed on their official website last month that the Argentinian goalkeeper is set to depart from the Etihad this summer, with his contract expiring on June 30.

Now, Sky Bet have priced Newcastle at just 5/2 to sign the 35-year-old goalkeeper, but are second in the running to sign the Argentinian stopper behind Premier League champions Chelsea, who need cover for Thibaut Courtois.

Antonio Conte’s side are as short at 2/1 with the Toon following closely in second after selling Asmir Begovic to Bournemouth, while Everton are also in the running to secure Caballero’s signature at 5/1.

Arsenal and Liverpool have also been credited with a price in signing the former Elche and Malaga goalkeeper. The Gunners are at 6/1 to provide Petr Cech with competition while Liverpool are way out at 10/1.

Rafa Benitez currently has an abundance of goalkeepers are available to him, with Karl Darlow, Matz Sels and Rob Elliot all vying for a place in the Magpies’ first team.

With Tim Krul and Freddie Woodman also set to return from loans ahead of the 2017-18 campaign, Benitez is likely to conduct a reshuffle in between the sticks and that could see Caballero join as others depart.

Since moving to Man City in the summer of 2014 from Malaga, Caballero has gone on to make 48 appearances for City as back-up to the likes of Joe Hart and Claudio Bravo.
