Newcastle United will need to splash the cash and pay Arsenal £15million in order to land full-back Kieran Gibbs this summer, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper reports that Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez is very interested in bringing the 27-year-old to the club due to his experience in the Premier League.

The Mirror claims that the North London side will sell, but only for a fee of around £15million.

This story follows up from the report in the Daily Mail which claimed that the newly-promoted Premier League side were keeping close tabs on Gibbs’ contract situation at the Emirates Stadium.

Gibbs has spent the majority of his footballing career at Arsenal but he has seen his minutes on the pitch decrease over the years due to a combination of injuries and being out of favour.

The full-back only made 11 Premier League appearances this season – his lowest amount of league games played since the 2010-11 campaign.

Arsene Wenger has preferred to go with Spaniard Nacho Monreal in the left full-back role for the majority of the season which has seen Gibbs watch on from the sidelines.

The Englishman could potentially be a great addition to the Newcastle squad as he has played in the English top flight for the majority of his playing days.

The move could also help Gibbs – being a first-team regular might put Gibbs in-line for an England call-up for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
