Alvaro Morata will quit Real Madrid and sign for Manchester United in the next 12 hours, according to Diario Gol.

The Spanish publication claim that United are on the verge of landing the striker after Real president Florentino Perez gave him the green light to seal a deal that will make him the most expensive Spanish player ever.

Diario Gol report that Morata has packed his bags to head to Manchester and will complete a move to Old Trafford by Thursday night.

It is said that the forward, 24, has broken off his honeymoon in order to try and force through a move to the Premier League giants by the start of July.

Morata is keen for the transfer to be signed, sealed and announced before Jose Mourinho recalls the United players for pre-season training on 8 July 8.

The huge development comes  after Spanish newspaper AS claimed that United and Morata had agreed personal terms, and that the two clubs just needed to agree a transfer fee for the move to go through.

Diario Gol do not specify how much United will pay for Morata other than that it will be a record for a Spanish player, with reports stating the fee will be around £60million.

Morata has established himself as one of the top young strikers in world football but he was forced to play second fiddle at Real last season as they stormed to the Spanish league and Champions League double.

He scored 20 goals and supplied six assists in 43 appearances across all competitions but did not start the marquee matches, including the Champions League final.

Morata had spent six years working his way through the youth system and into the first team squad, before departing for Italian heavyweights Juventus in 2014.

Real Madrid spent £25million to secure their former man last summer, but the player has made clear he is looking to exit the club once again after not being guaranteed a starting spot in Zinedine Zidane’s side.
