Europa League winners Manchester United have tabled a £31million offer for Benfica full-back Nelson Semedo, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish newspaper claims that United are the first club to place a bid on the table for the 23-year-old as they look to blow a number of big guns out of the water, including bitter rivals Manchester City.

The report claims that City are interested in signing the right-back along with European powerhouses Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Barcelona also keen on the defender this summer.

The Manchester giants have already signed one player from the Portuguese champions this summer as centre-back Victor Lindelof completed a move to Old Trafford last week.

Mundo Deportivo report that Benfica are looking for an offer closer to £35million for Semedo, which leaves United just £4million short of meeting the asking price needed to seal the deal.

The Portuguese defender was a regular in the Benfica first-team last season as he made a total of 47 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing 12 assists, remarkable figures for a player who is predominantly a defender.

The full-back’s contributions helped Benfica to secure a fourth consecutive Portuguese league title and they also picked up the 2017 Taca de Portugal.

Semedo is currently on international duty with the Portugal national team who are competing in the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia.

The defender was an unused substitute as Portugal drew 2-2 with Mexico on Sunday afternoon.

Semedo’s current contract with the Portuguese champions expires in the summer of 2021.
