Manchester United have made an approach to sign Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak, according to a report in the Manchester Evening News.

The newspaper claim that although the Champions League semi-finalists’ transfer ban was upheld last week, it would make no impact on the Slovenian’s proposed move to Old Trafford.

The MEN reported back in March that Oblak’s representatives met with United officials to discuss Oblak’s role in the squad if David de Gea were to make an exit from Manchester this summer.

It is said that United won’t face the same blow with the 24-year-old as they did with his team mate Antoine Griezmann, who recently confirmed his commitment to the La Liga side despite Mourinho’s interest.

United, Chelsea and Real Madrid have all made contact with Atletico over a move for Oblak, who has an £85million minimum release clause.

Oblak is an in-demand keeper owing to his outstanding record at Atletico since joining the club back in 2014, which has culminated in consecutive La Liga’s best goalkeeper awards.

He played 41 games for his club last season, and during that time he conceded just 28 goals, while keeping 21 clean sheets for the Spanish side.

The La Liga player still has four years left on his contract, but there is a strong possibility he could join the United squad this summer.
