Manchester United will need to splash the cash and pay Leicester City £50million in order to land goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel this summer, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims that the Foxes want to scare off potential suitors by placing a massive price tag on the 30-year-old goalkeeper.

Schmeichel would become the most expensive goalkeeper in the history of the game.

It is reported that United boss Jose Mourinho has been keeping tabs on the Danish shot-stopper for a number of months and he believes that Schmeichel would be the perfect replacement should current first choice David de Gea decide to join Real Madrid this summer.

The report claims that Real Madrid are convinced that de Gea will be part of the deal that sees striker Alvaro Morata move to Old Trafford.

Fellow Premier League side Liverpool are reportedly also interested in the Denmark international as manager Jurgen Klopp does not fully trust Belgian goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

The Sun claims that Leicester have already found a suitable replacement in goal and they are seriously considering signing Hull City goalkeeper Elden Jakupovic.

Schmeichel has been one of the best performers for Leicester over the last couple of seasons and he was instrumental in helping the Foxes secure the Premier League crown during the 2015-16 campaign.

The Dane was outstanding once again last season as he kept 14 clean sheets in all competitions.

Schmeichel’s current contract at the King Power Stadium expires in 2021.
