Kelechi Iheanacho has stated that his future lies at Manchester City and that he intends to be at the club next season despite interest from West Ham.

Iheanacho, 20, endured a difficult 2016/17 campaign at the Etihad as he was used sparingly by manager Pep Guardiola.

The Nigerian striker scored seven goals in 29 appearances in all competitions last term, but he started just eight of those games.

The 20-year-old’s lack of minutes on the pitch has led to speculation that he may leave the club this summer, and last Tuesday leading bookmaker Sky Bet placed West Ham as 1/2 favourites to sign him before the transfer window shuts.

However, in an interview with BBC World Service he refused to acknowledge the rumours of a move to the London Stadium and he has suggested that he is ready to fight for his place at City.

Iheanacho told the broadcaster: “I don’t know about that news [about transfers].

“All I know is that I’m still at Manchester City, I’m still a Manchester City player so all the news that’s going on about teams wanting to buy me, I try not to know about that.

“People will go on holiday and we will see. It’s not only me that hasn’t been playing, there’s other players.

“The manager rotates the players and squad so that everyone gets game time. So I shouldn’t be complaining that I’m not getting a game.

“We are one squad and we are a full squad so everyone is not going to be playing at the same time.”

The Nigerian attacker joined City’s academy in January 2014 from Taye academy, and he enjoyed a breakthrough season the following campaign.

In 2015/16 he played 35 league and cup games and scored 14 goals for the first team, an impressive return given he was used mainly as an impact substitute.

The 20-year-old has been capped nine times by Nigeria, and has scored six goals, one of which came in a 3-0 friendly win over Togo earlier this month.
