Crystal Palace have entered the race to sign Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho this summer, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claims that the Palace board are prepared to back the incoming manager by pursuing the 20-year-old striker.

It is understood that former Ajax boss Frank de Boer has been the man selected to replace Sam Allardyce as the new manager at Selhurst Park.

The report claims that the South London club are looking to bolster their attacking options ahead of the upcoming campaign and they believe that the Nigerian is the perfect candidate.

This follows up from the recent story in the Telegraph which reported that City want to insert a buy-back clause into any deal that sees the youngster leave the Etihad Stadium.

Palace did not have an issue finding the back of the net in the Premier League last season as they notched up 50 league goals – the best offensive record amongst all the teams who finished in the bottom half of the table.

Iheanacho was unable to become a regular starter under new City boss Pep Guardiola last season as he only featured in 20 Premier League matches, but he still managed to score seven goals in all competitions.

The Nigerian’s contract at the club runs out in the summer of 2021.
