Don Hutchison has urged Liverpool to turn their attention towards defender Jonathan Tah after ending their interest in Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool confirmed in a statement on their official website on Wednesday afternoon that they were to move on from the Holland international, as their pursuit of the defender came under scrutiny.

Former Liverpool midfielder Hutchison replied to a Liverpool fan on his personal Twitter account when asked who he believes the Reds should target after failing to lure van Dijk to Anfield.

Hutchison believes his old side should move for Bayer Leverkusen stopper Tah, who has become increasingly renowned as one of the best young defenders in Germany.

Tah, 21, helped Leverkusen keep five clean sheets in his 26 league and cup appearances this season as Tayfun Korkut’s side struggled in the top tier of German football, finishing in a lowly 12th place.

Already a three-time Germany international, Tah also found the back of the net for the first time in first-team football during a 3-2 loss against Borussia Monchengladbach back in January 2017.

Known for his pace at the back and commanding presence that allows him to dictate aerial battles, Tah has sprung onto the scene despite his tender age.

It remains to be seen how much Jurgen Klopp’s Merseyside giants would have to pay for Tah, who joined Leverkusen as a teenager from Hamburg in July 2015.

With three years still to run on his current contract at the BayArena, Liverpool would have to stump up a large amount to bring Tah to Anfield due to his young age and rising stock in European football.
