Liverpool have made a move to sign Napoli defender Faouzi Ghoulam and Alberto Moreno could head the other way in part-exchange, according to a reliable journalist.

Sky Sports Italy correspondent Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed on his personal website that the Merseyside giants are keen on landing Ghoulam, 26, as they prepare to offload Moreno.

Di Marzio reports that Napoli have made an approach to Liverpool about signing the Spaniard this summer and that a swap deal could be on the cards.

Ghoulam, a France-born Algeria international, has been discussed before at Liverpool but is said to have re-emerged as a possible option in conversations between the two clubs.

He was signed for Napoli by former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez, who beat off competition from Chelsea and Manchester City at the time in 2014.

Wide man Moreno is available for transfer but the British media report that Liverpool want £15million for the 24-year-old, who they signed for £12m from Sevilla three years ago.

Left-back has been a problem position for Liverpool and Moreno was axed from the team at the start of last season, when Jurgen Klopp opted to make James Milner the regular on the left side of defence.

Ghoulam has become a consistent performer in Serie A during recent seasons and was a mainstay of the Napoli starting line-up last season.

The Algeria international made 38 appearances across all competitions last season and showed his attacking talents with 10 assists in return.

He has now racked up 136 appearances for Napoli, but is yet to test himself in England.
