Pep Clotet has told Leeds fans that he’ll be “forever grateful” for their affection and support they offered him from his first day to his final one at the club as he prepares to depart.

It has been well known that the 40-year-old Spaniard was leaving his role as the Yorkshire giants’ assistant following the appointment of Thomas Christiansen earlier in the month.

He was not part of the group that followed Garry Monk to league rivals Middlesbrough and he remained as part of the Elland Road staff until the end of his contract on Friday June 30.

Now, on his final day at Leeds Clotet has posted his delight and gratitude on his personal Twitter account at being given the opportunity to work for such a prestigious club in a touching goodbye.

Clotet was a firm fan favourite with the Leeds fans during his single year at the club and some were even calling for him to take over from Monk in the dugout.

But, it would now seem as though the Spaniard’s future lies with League One club Oxford with the Sky Sports transfer centre blog reporting (Friday, 3.47pm) that he was the front runner for the side’s managerial position.
