Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is interested in signing Barcelona full-back Jordi Alba this summer, according to Don Balon.

The Spanish outlet claims that the Portuguese man is a huge fan of the 28-year-old’s physical ability on the pitch and he has been tracking the Spanish defender for a number of months as he believes that he would be the perfect fit at Old Trafford.

It also reports that Barcelona are not willing to let the Spaniard leave the Camp Nou this summer as they believe that last season’s recruit Lucas Digne is not ready to become a regular starter in the left full-back role for the club next season.

However, Mourinho is not deterred by this and is “very serious” about pursuing a move.

The Spain international seemed to fall out with former head coach Luis Enrique which saw him spend a large part of the season watching on from the substitutes’ bench.

The full-back only started in 20 La Liga matches and he failed to deliver when called upon as he only scored one goal and provided six assists in all competitions – his lowest amount of assists since the 2013-14 season.

However, Alba did play the full 90 minutes in the Copa del Rey final as Barcelona won the competition for a third consecutive season with a 3-1 win over fellow La Liga side Alaves.

Since moving to Catalonia in 2012, the Spaniard has won nine major trophies at the Camp Nou including three league titles and a Champions League.

Alba’s current contract at the club expires in the summer of 2020.
