Scottish Premiership side Hearts are interested in signing Newcastle United striker Tom Heardman on a loan deal next season, according to the Chronicle.

The newspaper claims that Hearts have entered the race to secure the 21-year-old who is attracting a lot of interest from teams in League One during this summer transfer window.

The report claims that Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez will assess the young striker in pre-season training, but is “likely” to send him out on loan in a bid to get him more experience.

Heardman recently signed a new contract at St James’ Park but he is unlikely to break into the first-team in the upcoming campaign as the Magpies prepare for the life back in the Premier League.

The striker might be tempted to move to Hearts this summer as he would be reunited with former Newcastle coach Ian Cathro who is the current manager of the SPL club.

Heardman was sent out on loan to League Two side Hartlepool last season but he did not enjoy many minutes on the pitch as he only made two appearances.

The youngster returned to St James’ Park in January and he produced some great performances for the Under-23 side, scoring six goals in 13 league appearances.
