Lukaku on the verge of joining Chelsea

|

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku has agreed personal terms to rejoin former club Chelsea this summer, according to the Daily Star.

The newspaper claims that the 24-year-old has agreed a contract worth more than £150,000-a-week with the Premier League champions.

There were rumours suggesting that Chelsea would make a move for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata this summer but a source close to the London club told the Star that Lukaku is still the main priority.

It is reported that manager Antonio Conte is looking to add another striker to the squad after informing last season’s top goalscorer Diego Costa that he is no longer required at Stamford Bridge.

However, the report claims that the deal has yet to be finalised as the Merseyside club want to receive an offer worth £100million for the Belgian striker.

The Daily Star reports that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is unlikely to sanction a deal for that amount of money for a player who departed the club three years ago for a fee around £28million.

Last season, Lukaku enjoyed one of the best campaigns of his footballing career as he scored a total of 26 goals and provided seven assists in all competitions for the Toffees last season.

The Belgian’s contract at Goodison Park expires in the summer of 2019.
