Young goalkeeper Louis Gray has signed a new contract at Everton after agreeing terms with the Toffees, it was announced on Friday.

The Merseyside club announced via their official website and Twitter account that the 21-year-old had put pen-to-paper on a new one-year deal.

Gray’s old contract was set to expire on Friday June 30, but Everton have given the young shot-stopper until 2018 following his recovery from a long-term injury.

The Welshman was ruled out for six months for the Under-23s in last season’s Premier League 2 winning season with a back problem, but it is detailed that he is now ready to start pre-season training with David Unsworth’s team as they prepare for a title defence.

It has been a hugely successful year for the Everton academy as they ran out winners ahead of each of Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal in the Premier League 2 in the last campaign.

A number of youngsters such as Tom Davies, Mason Holgate and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have also made the step-up to the first team and have featured in the Premier League.

The future is certainly looking bright for Everton at this moment in time and Gray will be hoping to showcase his talents in the next campaign following this extension.
