Everton have opened talks with Dutch side Ajax over the potential transfer of midfielder Davy Klaassen, according to De Telegraaf

The Dutch newspaper report on their website that the Toffees have begun negotiations over a £26million (€30million) move for the Dutch giants’ captain, who operates as an attacking midfielder.

A report from the Mirror on Sunday claimed that Everton boss Ronald Koeman had made the 24-year-old a top priority signing this summer, and it seems that the Dutch manager is on his way to securing his fellow countryman.

De Telegraaf’s report claims that the Amsterdam based club are looking to receive a similar amount of money for Klaassen as they did their record sale Arek Milik, who was sold to Napoli for approximately £28million (€32million).

The Dutch international enjoyed a very successful individual season, scoring 20 goals across both domestic and European competitions, as he led his side to runners-up spots in both the Eredivisie and the Europa League.

Klaassen has spent his entire career at Ajax, having graduated from the club’s famed youth academy, making 182 appearances and scoring 55 goals across all competitions since making his debut in a 0-0 draw against Olympique Lyonnais back in 2011.

He has also made 14 appearances for the Dutch national side, scoring four times, including in their 5-0 friendly victory against the Ivory Coast at the beginning of June.
