Everton midfielder Ross Barkley is ready to accept that his time at the club is over, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim that the 23-year-old has finally reached an emphatic decision on his long-term future, after failing to agree upon a new contract at Goodison Park.

Barkley has just one year remaining on his current deal at the Merseyside club, but manager Ronald Koeman had wanted the attacking-midfielder to commit his future with a new long-term deal.

However, after contract talks stalled, the Everton chief issued Barkley with an ultimatum demanding he sign a new deal or he will be sold this summer.

Yet while Barkley has still to sign a new deal, Koeman has also yet to put Barkley up for sale, but it appears as though the midfielder has set his sights on a summer move away from the club.

Barkley made 39 appearances in all competitions last season, but faces increased competition for a first-team role in 2017-18 following the arrival of summer signing Davy Klaassen.

But with the World Cup next year, Everton’s contract rebel wants to move to a club where he can get more regular first-team opportunities to strengthen his bid to earn a place in the England squad.

He was absent from the squad for the recent meetings with Scotland and France earlier this month, while he was also an unused substitute during the double-header with Germany and Lithuania in March.

His last appearance for England came as a substitute during a friendly win over Australia over a year ago, and Barkley wants a move away from Everton to re-ignite his international career.

However, the queue for his signature has reduced in recent weeks, with Premier League rivals Tottenham that latest side to reportedly retract their interest.

The Mirror had earlier claimed that Tottenham were having second thoughts over a summer swoop, while the Telegraph report that Everton want a staggering £50million for the player.
